Reshape Your Day
What was the first thing on your mind when you got up this morning? Was it a quick trip to the bathroom? Brush your teeth? COFFEE!!!? Brrrrrrr, it’s cold? We all have that first thought or first thing that we have to do when we roll out of bed each morning., and it’s usually the same each and every morning.
But, after we get going, what is on our minds? We most likely start to think about our day ahead. Maybe you have an all important meeting, or a deadline to reach. Possibly, you need to get an assignment in, or maybe you’re thinking about seeing a certain person during the day. Are you so far behind that you’re actually thinking about yesterday and how to get past it (though technically you are already past it)? Maybe you are having difficulties in your family that you are trying to deal with, or there could be something exciting going on, like a celebration or an event that has you all excited.
This world has a way of taking hold of our lives as soon as we get going, and it doesn’t want to let go of us, even after our day is over and we lay our head on our pillow to rest. Admit it, your mind is still going 90 miles per hour when you lay down at night. We have so much to think about from the moment we open our eyes until the time we try to close them again.
Try something new! First thing out of bed, or better yet, even before you roll out of bed, ask God what He has in store for you today. Ask Him to help you to focus on His needs for you, and not let this world sway you from doing that one thing that He may have planned for you today. It may be something like saying a few words to someone, or giving someone a call. You might need to say a special prayer for someone. It might be something as simple as listening to what someone has to say.
Or, He might just send you half way around the world to give His message to someone!
You will know, if you open yourself to His voice and listen to Him before the rest of the world comes crashing in on you and tries to drown out His voice. He has many plans and many souls to touch, and He wants us to be the bearers of His love. Stop, just long enough to ask Him what His plans are for YOU today. Then, don’t ignore Him. You may very well have one of those days that you will never forget.
Don’t wait for God to send someone else. Isaiah didn’t. He told God “Here I am. Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8) Maybe that should be our first thoughts of the day, even before we know what is in store for us. “Here I am. Send me.” What a show of faith that would be.
